In a bumper series of nominations, Australia's favourite holiday destination, Zagame's Paradise Resort, is up for three separate prestigious tourism gongs, taking out a win last night.
Held at the Royal International Convention Centre, Brisbane last night the glittering award ceremony was attended by Premier Campbell Newman and Tourism Minister Jan Stuckey and over 1,000 industry representatives. The resort received the inaugural award for Industry Innovation in the QHA (QLD Hotels Association) Awards for Excellence, a new award which was created due to the resorts unique approach to thinking outside the box, breaking all the rules and developing a new product that pushes the boundaries within the industry.
The Resort was nominated with a host of worthy recipients including the Sofitel Brisbane Central Brisbane, the Watermark Hotel Brisbane and A1 Sudima Suites Brisbane.
Resort General Manager, David Brook, was thrilled that the QHA had recognised the efforts of the Resort and its owners for innovation and stepping outside the boundaries to reinvigorate their visitor experience.
"It was an honour to have won this award"he said. "It's nice to have all the hard work and planning validated with this special recognition."
The QHA Awards for Excellence Program is designed to provide a forum for the public recognition of excellence in individual and group achievement by Queensland hotels.
"We've taken our customer feedback on board and looked at areas of improvement and believe the overall product speaks for itself," said Mr Brook.
"The win will also spur us on to greater heights and with a further $2 million investment underway to continue the upgrade of our rooms, we'll be keen to try and make it into the nominations for next year's QHA Awards."
Coming off the back of the QHA win is nominations of the Resort by both the QTIC (QLD Tourism Industry Council) for Innovation in Tourism in 2013 for Planet Chill Ice Skating Rink and the QLD Tourism Awards in the Unique Accommodation category.
"We welcome the opportunity to showcase our Resort as we are proud of what we have to offer families who are holidaying on the Gold Coast."
The QTIC Prize for Innovation in Tourism is open to small to medium sized Queensland tourism enterprises that have developed and adopted innovative products, services and processes between January 2012 and June 2013 within Queensland.
Specifically, the QTIC nomination recognises the innovation and installation of PLANET CHILL - the only Resort-based ice skating rink in the southern hemisphere and one which has been a big attraction for Paradise Resort.
"The installation of an all-weather, iced attraction on the Gold Coast lends itself to family fun, year round and we are pleased that our+nbsp;capital expenditure has resulted in such a well-loved zone for kids - big and small."
In what has been a year of popularity, the Resort was also awarded winner of the "Best Family Resort in Australia 2013", as voted by readers of Holidays with Kids Magazine and announced in the Spring issue.
"There's a lot to be proud about for our team as we head into another action-packed summer season for the Resort; more attractions, more value and certainly more smiles."
The QTIC Awards will be announced on 22nd October, followed by the Queensland Tourism Awards in late November in Brisbane.
